DeliverLean Partners with Broward Sheriff’s Office to Stimulate Workplace Wellness

DeliverLean, South Florida’s fastest growing healthy meal delivery service, has become a community partner in the Broward Sheriff’s Department Obesity Weight Loss Program (OWL). In an effort to stimulate workplace wellness DeliverLean is now one the meal plan providers of the BSO Obesity Weight Loss Program, which was created in 2013 by Chief Todd Leduc. DeliverLean will provide breakfast at roll calls, weekly weigh-ins, samples of food and juice at community events, meals at the BSO annual company picnic and host demonstrations on the importance of nutrition and healthy eating. The community partnership will reach over 5,800 BSO employees, including more than 2,800 certified deputies and more than 600 fire rescue professionals.

“Through the Obesity Weight Loss Program the Broward County Sheriff’s Department is determined to enhance healthy behavior among our emergency personnel,” says Broward County Sheriff’s Department Chief Todd Leduc. “Creating this community partnership with DeliverLean gives our employees the tools they need to live a healthier, fitter lifestyle.”

Jobs in the fire and emergency services are demanding both physically and mentally. DeliverLean and the Broward Sherriff’s Department have come together to lower the high rates of overweight and obese personnel. Evidence suggests that a number of work-related risk factors associated with fire and emergency services contribute to and increase risk of poor health including the physiologic strain of firefighting, exposure to particulate matter and airborne toxins, extreme heat, dehydration, shift work, noise and psychological stress. DeliverLean and BSO will battle the challenges of this profession and teach employees how to maintain a healthy lifestyle while at a high stress and demanding job.

“DeliverLean is honored to partner with the Broward Sheriff’s Office,” says DeliverLean CEO and Founder, Scott Harris. “We have the opportunity to give back to our community’s most important men and women, teaching them how to live healthier and more balanced lives so they can continue to protect and serve our communities at their fullest potential.”

In 2013, Chief Leduc was tasked with managing BSOFR’s newly created Division of Health and Wellness. The OWL Program was designed to proactively address the most significant risk factor firefighters face – weight – as a means of decreasing injury related costs and improve firefighter health risk overall and improving firefighters’ potential health risks overall. Now in its second year, with community partners such as DeliverLean, BSO has yet another tool to increase health and wellness among the cities essential employees.
