WRE: What inspired you to start DeliverLean Cares?

Scott Harris: DeliverLean is one of the nation’s largest food manufacturers specializing in health and wellness. In the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we realized that we had the ability and the responsibility to use our products and services for good in the community.

WRE: Tell us more about what DeliverLean Cares?

SH: We’ve entered into a number of partnerships and created various initiatives to help the most vulnerable and underserved members of the South Florida community during this unprecedented time. We’ve joined forces with Alonzo Mourning and the Overtown Youth Center, we’ve created hundreds of new jobs to provide employment for people who may be out of work right now, including hiring many people from the restaurant and hospitality industry and we’re working closely with Miami-Dade County to provide meals to seniors.

WRE: Can you share some more details on your partnership with Alonzo Mourning?

SH: Yes! We’ve partnered with Alonzo and the Overtown Youth Center to offer free breakfast and lunch at Gibson Park [401 NW 12th Street, Miami, FL 33136] between 9AM and 1 PM every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

WRE: What about meals for seniors?

SH: We have a contract with Mayor Carlos Gimenez and Miami Dade County to feed the most at risk people of our community, seniors. We are delivering to 4,000 seniors’ homes daily within the county. Each person receives 10 meals weekly, to their door with absolutely no contact. All seniors have to do is dial 311 to get their delivery set up. They must reside in Miami Dade County to qualify.

WRE: You said that you’re hiring currently – what positions are open and who is eligible?

SH: I’m so happy to be able to be able to be hiring right now when so many have found themselves suddenly unemployed. We have added many positions in multiple departments including drivers, sanitation, logistics, plating and more and have hired many displaced personnel from the restaurant industry. We are asking qualified individuals to send resumes to HR@deliverlean.com.

WRE: How are you focusing on health and safety?

SH: We’ve always followed stringent guidelines in our USDA certified manufacturing facility, and we’ve put additional safety measures in place to protect our employees and the people who are receiving our products. All employees are screened prior to entering the facility, and their temperatures are taken. All employees wear protective gear including masks, gloves, coats and goggles and we have a stringent no contact, 6 foot distance delivery protocol.
